We will have an in-town (no camping) outing available this week and it is close to home. We have scheduled a Saturday session of a mock outer space adventure at the Challenger Center at the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Hermann Park. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NEITHER THE SPACE CENTER HOUSTON NOR IS IT THE CHALLENGER CENTER AT BRAZOS BEND / GEORGE OBSERVATORY.
This year's mission includes a flight to Mars. Dads and kids both participate on teams like satellite deployment, remote robot control of the engine, and robotic testing of "hazardous" and radioactive materials. Astronauts will conduct experiments and other work as the fly to Mars. Through the journey, there may be problems or emergencies that the crew will need to deal with, such as high radiation, explosive gases, power blackouts, life support failure, and more.
The cost is $12 per person, which includes museum admission. We are limited to 40 people. Deadline for sign-ups is February 5th.
Our launch time is 10:00 a.m. Please meet with the rest of the group no later than 9:30 a.m. near the main entrance. We will enter the museum at 9:45 and if you miss the group entrance you will have to pay the museum admission fee to join us. Please be on time!
You can get lunch at the McDonald's at the HMNS after the mission and then spend the afternoon at the museum (museum admission is included in the cost).
