Katori Trails
Our first activity of the year is a trip to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels on Saturday, September 19. As in past year, we will be camping at the K L Ranch Camp just outside of New Braunfels. The camp will be available Friday and Saturday nights.
You can arrive Friday night or come up Saturday morning. Note, this camp will lock its gates at midnight, so plan accordingly. For the waterpark, you will want to bring some sunscreen, water shoes or sandals and towels. Schlitterbahn will allow you to bring in a cooler with food and drinks, which can save a few $’s. Remember, NO glass in the coolers and they do check them at the entrance.
If you are camping with us, you will need the usual camping gear: tent, sleeping bags, stove, food, etc. Most of the "cliff side" campsites at the K L Ranch Camp have a picnic table, a fire pit, water and electricity. Early September can still be quite warm at night, so consider bringing a fan. As usual, it is first come, first served for the choice spots.
The cost is $57 a person. This includes two nights at the KL Ranch and a one-day admission to Schlitterbahn. The deadline to register is the end of the day on Monday, September 14. To sign up, you can pay by phone by calling (281)392-5055, in person at the Katy Family YMCA or online.
After a full day in the waterpark you can cook your own dinner or dine at one of the many restaurants in New Braunfels. The campfire will start around 8:30 on Saturday evening. If you can bring some firewood, it would be appreciated.

Take I-10 west toward San Antonio. In Seguin, exit north on Route 46 at Exit 607. Stay on 46 until after you pass under I-35 in New Braunfels where the road becomes Route 46/Loop 337. Continue on 46 for approximately 3 miles. Just after the Guadalupe River, turn right on River Road, there’s a Texaco station on the right. Go down River Road for 1.7 miles to the fork in the road. Stay to the right, you are still on River Road. Go 2 miles and look on the right side of the road for K L Ranch entrance, 5300 River Road, New Braunfels, TX 78132. We will convoy to Schlitterbahn Saturday morning so you shouldn’t get lost then. If you are driving up Saturday morning watch for the signs on 46 after you pass I-35, the park is down Common Street to the left.
